About the Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra
The Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra performs 10-12 concerts in the western metro area each year. Rehearsals and concerts are held on Sundays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. September through June at the Arts Center on 7, 18285 Highway 7, Minnetonka (adjacent to Minnetonka High School). Membership is by audition. String players are welcome anytime.
Past repertoire of these ensembles includes:
· Symphonies by Mahler, Mozart, Sibelius, Dvorak, Beethoven, Bruckner, Shostakovich
· Overtures by Rossini, Weber
· Night on Bald Mountain, Billy the Kid, Grand Canyon Suite, Espana, Songs of the Wayfarer, Rhapsody in Blue, Firebird Suite, The Thunder March, Orpheus in the Underworld, Pictures on Exhibition
· Verdi and Faure Requims
The Symphony Orchestra plays in concert with the winner of MAM’s Young Artist Competition and performs an annual concert in conjunction with the BRAVO! Program offered in public schools. It also offers concerto performances by orchestra and community soloists.
The Minnetonka Chamber Orchestra is comprised of members of the Symphony Orchestra and performs at MAM’s annual Messiah Community Sing-Along.
About the Conductor
Dr. Roger Hoel studied orchestral conducting with Leopold Sipe of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, George Tratwine of the Minnesota Orchestra, David Zinmann of the Buffalo Symphony Orchestra, and Antal Dorati of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has studied band conducting with Dr. Frank Bencriscutto of the University of Minnesota, Miles Johnson of St. Olaf College, and Dr. Frederick Fennel of the Eastman School of Music.
In the past, Dr. Hoel has played with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra the New York Brass Quintet, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
